How to send a DM to everyone who comments on your Instagram post

“Comment LINK and I’ll send it to you” turns a reel into clicks, sales and email sign-ups — until 300 people comment and you are copying the same link into DMs at midnight. This guide shows how comment-to-DM automation works, the rules Instagram sets for it, DM examples you can copy, and how to keep your account safe.

How comment-to-DM works on Instagram

You pick a post or reel and a keyword. When someone comments that word, they get a DM from you with the message you wrote — usually a link — and, if you like, a short public reply under their comment such as “Sent it to your DMs 📩”.

Instagram supports this officially. The DM is a private reply: a professional account may send one message to a person who commented on its post, within 7 days of the comment. If they answer, the conversation continues like any other DM.

Set it up in five minutes

  1. Switch to a professional account if you have not already: Instagram settings, Account type and tools, Creator or Business. It is free.
  2. Allow message access so DMs can be sent: Settings, Messages and story replies, Message controls, Connected tools, Allow access to messages.
  3. Connect Instagram to ReviewReplier. You log in on Instagram’s own page and approve access — no password is shared.
  4. Create an automation. Choose one post or every post, the keyword(s), the DM and up to ten public replies. One is picked at random each time, so your replies don’t all look the same.
  5. Send it to earlier comments too if the post is already live. Anyone who commented in the last 7 days gets the DM, once.

Instagram’s rules for automated DMs

Keep your account safe

Creators are right to be careful: plenty of “Instagram bots” ask for your password, log in from a server and click around the app pretending to be you. That breaks Instagram’s terms and is the fastest way to a locked account. Before you connect any tool, check three things:

  1. It never asks for your password. A tool on the official API sends you to Instagram’s own login page and shows exactly which permissions it wants.
  2. It only messages people who reached out. Private replies to comments and answers to DMs — not mass DMs, follow/unfollow or auto-likes.
  3. It slows itself down. When a reel goes viral, hundreds of DMs at once look like spam.

ReviewReplier uses Instagram’s official API (the Instagram API with Instagram Login). It sends each person an automation’s DM once, spreads messages out to at most 20 a minute per account, varies the public replies, and stops everything the moment you disconnect or remove the app in Instagram. Your sign-in is stored encrypted, and you can delete all the data we keep for your account from the app.

Reply to every comment in your voice

Comments that are not keywords still deserve an answer — replies keep the conversation going under your post. Tell ReviewReplier a little about yourself once (your links, your collab email, the questions fans keep asking) and it drafts a reply to each new comment the way you talk:

Choose Ask me first to approve each draft, or Automatic to let replies go out after a short, human-like delay.

Answer DMs automatically, hand over the important ones

The same “About you” powers DM answers: “price?”, “where do you buy that?”, “ye kitne ka hai?” — common questions get an answer straight away, and set answers can be tied to keywords such as “price”.

Some messages should never be answered by a bot. Brand deals, sponsorships, money, complaints and anything personal are handed to you with a notification instead of a reply. And when you answer a chat yourself — even from the Instagram app — the AI stays quiet in that chat for as long as you choose.

Mistakes that make automation look spammy

Frequently asked questions

Is comment-to-DM automation allowed on Instagram?

Yes, when it goes through Instagram’s official API. Instagram calls these messages private replies: a business or creator account may send one DM to someone who commented on its post, within 7 days of the comment. Tools that log in with your password or click around the app for you are a different story — they break Instagram’s terms.

Do I need a business account?

You need a professional account, which can be a Creator or a Business account. Switching is free in Instagram settings, under Account type and tools, and you can switch back. Personal accounts cannot use the messaging API.

Will my Instagram account get banned for using automation?

Automation through the official API is a supported use of Instagram, not a hack. What gets accounts restricted is spam: unsolicited DMs, the same message blasted at high speed, or misleading links. ReviewReplier only sends private replies to people who commented and answers to people who messaged you, paces the messages per account and sends the same DM to a person once. Nobody can promise an account will never be restricted, but these are the habits Instagram’s rules ask for.

Do you need my Instagram password?

No. You log in on Instagram’s own page and choose what ReviewReplier may do. We never see or store your password. You can remove access any time from Instagram: Settings and activity, Website permissions, Apps and websites.

Can I DM people who commented before I set up the automation?

Yes, as long as they commented in the last 7 days — that is Instagram’s limit for private replies. After you create an automation, choose to send it to earlier comments and the DMs go out gradually.

How long can the DM be?

Instagram limits a DM to 1,000 bytes of text: about 1,000 characters in English, fewer when you use emojis or Hindi script. A short message with one link works best anyway.

Can I reply to comments in Hindi or Hinglish?

Yes. The AI replies in the language and script the follower used, so Hinglish gets Hinglish, Hindi in Devanagari gets Devanagari and English gets English.

Is ReviewReplier an official Instagram partner?

No. ReviewReplier is an independent app built on Instagram’s official API. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Instagram or Meta.

How much does it cost?

Every account starts with a 14-day free trial, no card needed. Comment-to-DM automations do not use your AI reply allowance; AI-written comment and DM replies do. Paid plans are monthly and paid in rupees through Razorpay.
